I’ve Been Sick—Here’s What That Means for My Sewing

Hi friend! I wanted to give you a life update and tell you what’s going on.

I’ve been sick, so that means I haven’t been sewing. I also had to pause blogging too.

I’ve been laid up in bed, and it has been miserable. I know other people have it worse than me. I can still breathe and move around at least.

I’m not trying to complain.

But I’m annoyed because I really want to sew and get on with my life. The last thing I was sewing was a pair of shorts many weeks ago. It’s still lying on my cutting table.

Has this ever happened to you? Can you relate?

Okay, I’ll tell you how it all started. I went on a trip to Europe, then came back home for a week.

I did a little sewing, but then took off to Hawaii. After two days in Hawaii, I came down with COVID.

It ruined my vacation (and my life). I laid up in bed in the hotel. It was not fun at all. Why me? Why now?

After a week, I started feeling better and came back home. Many symptoms went away, but I wasn’t fully healed.

I started sewing and doing other things instead of resting. Then boom—the symptoms came back worse.

So I ended up in bed again for a couple of weeks until I went to the doctor. It turns out I had a double ear infection and another infection.

The whole time I thought it was just COVID taking a long time. I just hate COVID. Go away and leave me alone. This is the second time I’ve had it. It’s not welcome here.

Stop ruining my life already.

Anyway, now I’m taking two antibiotics. With the infections, I have a loss of appetite, and these meds surely don’t make it any better.

But hey, I’m feeling a bit better finally. It has been two months since I got COVID, so I’m ready to be up and moving again.

Now, this whole experience made me think of a YouTube channel I was watching. It was a sewist who posted videos of her creations.

The very last video she posted was about her cancer diagnosis. Then she stopped.

I wondered what happened to her. Was she okay? Was she still battling cancer? Maybe she was too sick to sew.

I didn’t know her. But sometimes when you follow someone on YouTube or online, you feel like you do know them in a way. And worry or feel for them.

And being sick always makes me think life is too short. Because you can feel so bad, you literally feel like you’re dying.

I’ve had time to reflect on a lot of things during my downtime.

But I’m glad the meds are working, and I’m feeling better now. I’m not all the way to baseline, but I’ve learned my lesson.

My body needs to fully rest and heal before I take on the world again.

I’m still here. I just need a little more time.

But hey, I’ve also thought about how I want to post now. I want to share more of my thoughts in this format.

I’ve been focusing so much on writing searchable posts. That’s great for traffic and all, but I don’t always want to do that.

Because life is too short, and I love to write.

Maybe one person will find this post, read it, and relate.

Sometimes we’re too sick to sew. We need to take care of ourselves. Sometimes healing takes more time than we planned. And that’s okay.
